The Developing Medicine Grants are provided to support
female medical students and doctors in developing countries.
An award of up to $1,000 USD will be provided to the recipient/s. All our grants are awarded in accordance with our Grant Making Policy.
The Developing Medicine Grants are awarded in memory of Mrs Dorothy Downes.

The Developing Medicine Prize will be awarded for a short video (5 to 10 minutes long) that explains how a specific healthcare challenge was overcome in a developing country.
The winner will receive $1,000 and there will be three runner-up prizes of $250. Entry will be free.
We expect to launch the Developing Medicine Prize 2026 in July 2026.

In April 2026, we were honoured to recognise the outstanding clinicians of the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at Addis Ababa University.
We thank Dr Ayalew Moges Beyenne, Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, who oversaw the nomination process.
The following paediatric clinicians were nominated for grants: Dr Addisu Worsa, Dr Addis Habtamu, and Dr Girma Alemu (top residents), Dr Melat Tesfaye (best consultant), Dr Kirubel Asmelash (best fellow) and Sr Mekdes Tsegaye (best nurse).
In March 2026, we were proud to support the launch of the the Nutritionally Integrated Food Assisting Product (NIFAP) at Arba Minch University, Ethiopia.
NIFAP was an initiative of our January 2026 grant winners, Dr Rodas Alemayehy, Ms Rebika Samuel, Ms Feven Teklay and Dr Lensa Getachew.
Congratulations again to them and the nominating committee: Dr Eyerusalem Beyene, Dr Yohannes Semion, Dr Mekonnen Mengistu and Dr Abinet Takele.
